Ann Goebel-Fabbri, PhD

 

is an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. She completed her PhD in clinical psychology at Boston University and her internship and post-doctoral training at Beth Israel Deaconess and Joslin Diabetes Center, both affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Her role at the Joslin Diabetes Center integrates teaching, research and treatment focused on disordered eating behaviors in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, which include food and insulin restriction, binge eating and obesity. She served as a co-investigator and supervising psychologist on several multi-center clinical trials involving behavioral weight loss techniques for both prevention of type 2 diabetes and promoting wellness in diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients – adults and adolescents. She designed the behavioral intervention for the Joslin Why WAIT and the Joslin YOU-Turn programs, remains the leading psychologist for the the two, and provides individualized treatment for participants in both programs.

Jacqueline I. Shahar, MEd, RCEP, CDE
 

Is a clinical exercise physiologist and the manager of the exercise physiology department at the Joslin Diabetes Center. She designed the innovative exercise program used in the Joslin Why WAIT program. She served in the Israeli Defense Force as a fitness combat trainer and then graduated from the Kibbutzim College of Education located in Tel Aviv, Israel. After earning her master’s degree in applied exercise science from Springfield College, she completed her internship at the Joslin Diabetes Center. She also consults on exercise and diabetes, teaches group classes and trains health care providers.

Gillian Arathuzik, RD, LDN, CDE

 

Is a nutrition diabetes educator at the Joslin Diabetes Center. She designed the menus and meal plans for the Joslin Why WAIT program and serves as the lead dietitian for the program. Recently, she was a coauthor of the book, Prevention’s Flat Belly Diet for Diabetes. Having received her BS in nutrition and dietetics at the University of Vermont and completed her dietetic internship at Indiana University Medical Center, she is also certified in adult weight management through the American Dietetic Association.
